DOWNIEVILLE, Calif. April 28, 2020 – The Downieville Fire Protection District has lost a valued Citizen, Fireman and Fire Chief. Michael Lozano passed away the evening of April 25th.

Mike was involved with the Downieville Fire Department from 1988 through 2018 and was Fire Chief from June 20th, 2017 until December 19th, 2018. He also became an EMT in 1991. During his 30 years as a member of the Fire Department, Mike dedicated his life to helping others. His commitment to kids and bicycle safety, the cadet program and senior help lines are among the many ways in which he connected with individuals and the community.

I personally remember his work with the Medical Clinic, his X-ray Technician Course and our many drives to Camptonville in the Clinic Mobile Van. He was always committed to his family, the community, and the Downieville Fire Department. He was a kind, caring giant of an individual who always tried to see the best in people. Farewell Chief Lozano!
