It is impossible to capture everything about a person and his life in a few words. Here some things that his family will always remember about Alfred that we would like to share:
Al’s family was very important to him. Circumstances didn’t always allow him to spend as much time with us as he would have liked, but he willingly assisted all of us when we needed help and when he could. He always talked with pride about Toni, Ben, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He did enjoy teasing his family, especially his nieces and nephews and they loved to return the teasing to “Uncle Bubba”.
His outlook on life was simple as he believed in working hard, doing good things and enjoying life. He was dedicated and loyal to the people and things he loved.
One of Alfred’s great loves was fishing. He especially loved saltwater fishing, and in particular taking his boat out into the San Francisco Bay and beyond with his friends. He and his fishing buddies also took trips to Alaska and Mexico. Many of his neighbors and family benefited from his fishing success with delicious and fresh seafood.
He was a good worker and always dedicated himself to the task at hand. Through his early years, he worked at several different jobs, but he discovered his true talent was as a carpenter. This is how he made his living for most of his life. He appreciated working for Ronnie Dos Reis Construction and especially enjoyed working on construction projects with his brother-in-law Richard Kendrick and nephew, Chris Kendrick.
Alfred found time to plant and tend to a large garden every summer. Again, he shared the harvest with family and many neighbors.
For almost all of his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps by enjoying western movies and cheering and jeering the Raiders. On the other hand, they differed in their favorite baseball team. While Alfred Sr. cheered for the New York Yankees, Alfred Jr was a huge San Francisco Giants fan.
His family is grateful for the care provided by the many doctors and nurses that cared for Alfred during his time in the UC Davis Medical Center as well as Sierra Nevada Hospital in Grass Valley.
His life and memory will be celebrated with private, family services.
