Thomas Joseph Muro

Thomas Joseph Muro passed away on February 29,2020 in Henderson, Nevada in an Assisted Living Facility at the age of 84, following a lengthy neurological illness called Inclusive Body Myosis.
Vigil Service and Eulogy will be held on Thursday July 21 at 5:30 pm at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City. The Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grass Valley, on Friday July 22, at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow in the hall. The family will attend a private burial immediately after mass and return for the fellowship.
Thomas Joseph Muro was born at home in Placentia, CA on July 15,1935 to Joseph and Elodia Muro. He served in the US Marine Corps following high school, his final rank was Sargent, and he was assigned to Classified during Viet Nam. He went on to implement the first Gigantic Computer Servers for the O’Neil Investment Firms in Los Angeles in the late fifties before retiring to Henderson, Nevada in the early eighties.
Having discovered dance at age 12, he became a Professional Flamingo Dancer with headlining performances in Carnegie Hall in New York City, Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City and abroad. Having had debilitating asthma from the age of 2 he discovered this dance alleviated his asthma. Along the way he also acted on stage. After moving to Henderson, Nevada he became President of the Sun City Dance Club for three years. He contributed his artistic talents by directing, choreographing, acting, set design, and participated in the Las Vegas Senior Olympics winning a gold metal with his dancing partner. Thomas also was the assistant director of the “Variety Players Theater” and Vice President of the Corkers wine club. Later in life he replaced his dancing with oil painting and “Ikebana” a Japanese flower arrangement which is nonphysical.
Thomas had a great sense of humor, generous with his time and presence, especially with the elderly he encountered in his life. He was a loyal friend, loving brother, and devoted son. Non-judgmental and lived a life of gratitude for God’s blessings. His faith was his strength.
Thomas is survived by his sisters Grace Marie Strong of Brea, CA, Patricia Muro of Grass Valley, nieces Michelle (Kenneth) Ayers of Whittier, CA, Cecilia (Anthony) Cleveland of Gilbert, AZ, nephews Joseph Hernandez of Brea, CA, Thomas (Michelle) of Brea, CA, and 12 grand nephews and nieces as well as 4 great nieces and nephews.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Joseph and Elodia Cecilia (Augilar) Muro.
