Kevin Roland Johnson was born on October 4th, 1967, in Berkeley, CA to Roland and Carol Johnson. He attended elementary school in North Carolina and when he started middle school, he, his parents and siblings, Deanna and Andy Johnson, moved to San Jose where he attended Andrew Hill High School. Kevin has always been very smart, kind and has always had a passion for working on cars.
In 1994, Kevin moved to Grass Valley and started his own family. He has 5 biological children, Casey, Nicholas (Sofia), Taylor (Casey), Mathew and Cole who are survived by their mother, Katie Berardo.
In 2003 he began his dream job and opened up his own automotive mechanic shop, Gold Country Automotive. He loved what he did and was so knowledgeable about all types of vehicles. A few years after he opened up his first shop in Grass Valley, he then expanded his business and opened up another in Penn Valley, CA.
Kevin has always been the type of person that if you needed help, he would be your guy. He saw the best in everyone and that was one of his best qualities. Kevin enjoyed camping, wheeling, dirt bike riding and hunting. In fact, he just loved doing everything outside especially with his 4 grandchildren, Brooklynn (10), Nolan (8), Levi (5), and Dillon (2).
In 2018, he met the love his life and got remarried to Stephanie Johnson and was blessed with a stepson, Noah Phariss. You could tell that Stephanie was the one for him just by the way he looked at her. Kevin believed that Stephanie was his God sent by the way she loved him unconditionally and took great care of him for the last 3 years.
Unfortunately, in August of 2019, Kevin was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and by a miracle he was cancer free for exactly 1 year before it had returned. Kevin put up his best fight for the 3 years and is currently receiving the healing he deserves. He passed peacefully at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley on February 4th and was able to be surrounded by his family and loved ones.
A celebration of life will be held soon. Details by family to follow.
