Marjorie Ann (McGregor) Lock passed away on February 13, 2023 in Grass Valley, California.

Marjorie’s husband of 59 years, William (Bill) Lock preceded her passing almost 10 years ago. Two children, David Lock of Niwot, CO and Tempe, AZ and Kelley Heinz of Nevada City survive Marjorie, as do other family members, listed below.

Marjorie began her almost 89 years with us in Wilkinsburg, PA, born on March 31, 1934. She moved to Concord, CA in her early teens, and there met her future husband at Mt. Diablo High School. Marjorie and Bill married July 6, 1953 in Concord, and spent their first two years of marriage in Honolulu, HI, where Bill was stationed during the Korean War. They returned to California and settled in Alameda, Chico, then Santa Paula where Marjorie raised her children while Bill taught school and later became an administrator. They relocated to Nevada City in 1968 when Bill became the superintendent-principal at Ready Springs School in Penn Valley. Marjorie worked at various jobs while in the area, including assisting at Seven Hills Middle School, working at Pauline’s Clothing and as a bank teller at Glenbrook branch of West America Bank. When Bill and Marjorie retired, they moved back to Southern California, which they used as a base to travel the world and enjoy the company of many friends and family. Marjorie returned to Nevada County five years ago to be closer to her daughter, Kelley.

Marjorie was handy with a sewing machine, kept a spotless house, enjoyed square dancing, cooking, playing cards and games, and most of all, spending time with her friends and family. She was an encouraging, selfless and loving mother. Other family members who survive Marjorie are: her brother Bill McGregor and his wife Prilla; daughter-in-law Jennie Lock; grandchildren Brandon Heinz, Taylor Heinz, Katie Lock and Sarah Smith; great-grandchildren Charlotte Smith and Liam Smith; and niece Laurie Holmes and nephew Scott McGregor.

In addition to her husband Bill, Marjorie was preceded in death by her mother Kathleen R. McGregor, father, William J McGregor I, and her nephew, William J McGregor III.

Marjorie and Bill chose to be cremated, and their remains have been placed at Riverside National Cemetery. A memorial service will be planned at a future date.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
