It is with the deepest heartache that we share that our beloved, Shawn Carnahan passed away on March 27, 2023, while out on his morning run. He was 62.

A Celebration of Shawn’s Life will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 12-2 at the Miner’s Foundry, 325 Spring Street, Nevada City, California. All are welcome to attend.

Shawn was born September 25, 1960, in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, to Marsha and Victor Carnahan. He grew up in Burlington with his younger brother Todd and enjoyed spending time on Georgian Bay at Lions Head where his maternal grandparents had a summer cottage. In 1982 Shawn graduated from McMaster University in the Greater Toronto area and began his career in the media industry as a design engineer at Evertz in Burlington and later at Adcom. His entrepreneurial spirit inspired him to join ImMIX as a founding engineer and relocate with his first wife Kim, whom he married in 1988, and 6-month old daughter, Paige to Nevada City, California. He remained at ImMIX until 1998 when he co-founded Telestream along with Dan Castles and Steve Tilly where he was the Chief Technical Officer for 25 years. His son, Dallas was born in 1993. Shawn held several patents and accepted an Emmy Award for Telesteam’s technical achievement in 2015. Those who knew him appreciated his intellect as well as his approachable style and keen ability to translate complex technologies for those less technically minded. His mark on the television industry is indelible.

Shawn married the love of his life, Barbara in 2022 after spending more than a decade traveling the world together and living part time on their boat in the San Francisco Bay. Shawn loved the boating life and treasured his shipmates at the Vallejo Yacht Club. Together, Shawn and Barbara spent weekends aboard roaming the waters of the Bay and the California Delta. When not in the Bay Area, they enjoyed family gatherings at their home in Nevada City which was often filled with friends and family for swim parties, backyard barbeques and outdoor movie nights.

The pride of Shawn’s life were his children, Paige and Dallas. He enjoyed traveling with them and spent the week prior to his death in London introducing Dallas to the city that he loved so. Shawn is survived by his wife Barbara DeHart, Children Paige and Dallas Carnahan, Stepchildren Brent Roberts (Nicole) and Samantha DeHart. He was the best Poppy any kid could ask for to Warren, Alexis, and Chloe Roberts and Calell and Caiuss Cole.

The most important thing to know about Shawn is that he was a good man who loved his family, his career, and his community. He created a beautiful life and was truly happy when he passed.
