Patricia G. Vessey passed May 12, 2023, at the age of 88.

Patricia was born November 13, 1934, in Fort Jones California to Leonard and Edith Humphreys. Her family moved to Nevada City in the early 1940s. Patricia graduated from Nevada City High School in 1952 and soon found herself working for Pacific Bell as a switchboard operator.

In 1955, Patricia married Carl Rua, leaving Pacific Bell to spend time raising her two children. She reentered the workforce in the mid-1960s, eventually managing the former Central Services Department for Nevada County until her retirement in 1997.

Patricia was not idle in her twilight years. She volunteered for several organizations, including the Senior Center, CHP, Meals on Wheels, the Retired Public Employees Association, to name a few. She quilted. Knitted. She was especially known for her beanies, which she produced hundreds of, both for her family and the community at large.

Patricia is survived by her children Tony (Jennifer) Rua, Carla (Mike) Rohm, her grandchildren Robert (Rachel) Rohm, Lydia (Joseph) Carter, Chris Rohm, Carl (Kira) Rua, and her five great grandchildren.

Special thanks to Brunswick Village and Hospice of the Foothills for their exceptional care and making Patricia’s passing comfortable and for their support during this difficult time.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
