Carl F. Novak passed away peacefully on July 15, 2023 at home. He was 81.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Nevada City Elks Lodge, 518 CA Highway 49, Nevada City.
Carl was born on September 16, 1941 in Grass Valley, CA to Bill and Marie Novak. He attended local schools and graduated from Mount St. Mary’s High School in 1959. He joined the U.S. Air Force in April 1963. He served for 26 years. He retired as SM SGT. He married Nancy George on July 5, 1963. They had two sons, Sean and Peter.
He was a ham radio operator for many years. He and Nancy enjoyed many years of travel in both Europe and the United States. They traveled thousands of miles in their motor home. Carl’s favorite trip was to Bandon, Oregon every Fall to crab.
Carl was a member of the Nevada City Elks Lodge #518. He served as House Committee Chairman for 2 ½ years and served as a Trustee for four years. He was also a member of the Grass Valley Moose Lodge #2217.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy, son and daughter-in-law Sean and Francine Novak, brother and sister-in-law Paul and Sarah Novak of Napa, CA, nieces Rachel Novak and Rebecca Novak, and cousin Dawn Smith and her husband Sam Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bill and Marie Novak, and his son Peter George Novak.
