Frank Morales

July 6, 1931 – August 18, 2023

Frank Morales, age 92 of Grass Valley passed away peacefully on Aug. 18, 2023, after a brief illness. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He was loved and respected by all who had the privilege of knowing him and was a true friend and gentleman who positively affected the lives of others. He will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, caring spirit, being a good listener, having a strong work ethic and welcoming handshake.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Gloria of 46 years; his son, Rick Morales (Tricia); daughters Cindy Hines (Dennis), and Gloria Jane Scott. 10 grandchildren; and a new great-granddaughter to be born in October.
Frank was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Thelma Lyles; brother, Angelo; sister, Grace; son, Frank Morales, Jr.; and stepson, Rick Scott.

He was born in New York and moved to San Francisco as a young child then to Richmond. He and his younger brother joined the Merchant Marines in their teens, and he then went on to enlist in the United States Marines, where he proudly served as a Sergeant and Executive Officer’s Orderly to the Commander on the USS Iowa battleship in the Korean War Conflict, which he received a commendation from the Executive Commander. Frank then became a Surveyor with the Operating Engineers Local 3 Union for 68 years and worked his way up to become the Director of the Technical Engineers for 46 counties in Northern and Central California. He attended a special program thru Harvard University in Boston and received a Labor Relations Degree, he then continued with San Francisco State College to get his AA degree.
Frank and Gloria moved to Nevada City and Grass Valley 33 years ago where he enjoyed many wonderful golden years. They actively participated in The Masons, as a 32 Degree Mason, Nevada City Elks Lodge, Marine Corp League Gold Country Detachment, Devil MTN Brigade and Clampers 1849 Chapter. They also enjoyed their vacation home and years of boating on the Delta at Korth’s Pirates Lair in Isleton where they had many fun times with friends and extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. at the Nevada City Elks Lodge, 518 CA Highway 49, Nevada City.
