Theodore A. Morris
November 6, 1940 to July 22, 2023
Ted was born in Fresno, to Alvin F. Morris and Lorraine E. (Saylor).
Ted attended Bullard High school in Fresno. He completed an AA degree at Fresno Community College in 1961. In 1962, he married Sylvia Tess Gay; they had three children.
He served in the Army National Guard for six years. Ted was a long-time licensed building contractor. In that profession, he followed in the footsteps of his grandfather and father.
In 1976, he moved with his family to Nevada City overlooking the South Yuba River canyon. Ted had a successful construction business that served the local community, Truckee, and Tahoe area. He was known for hiring teenagers to help build homes, many of those apprenticeships led to long careers in the construction trade.
His passion was riding and working with horses. Ted enjoyed working the summers for friends at the High Sierra Pack Station near Edison Lake CA, where he led customers on week-long pack trips, wrangling the stock and whipping up campfire suppers. Ted was a member of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Posse in the early 1990s.
After his divorce Ted met Jane M. Shiflet in Santa Cruz and married in 1990. After retirement Ted & Jane
moved to Baker City, OR where they built their dream home. Ted was a member of the Baker County Sheriff’s Posse.
In later years Ted and Jane returned to Grass Valley to be closer to family and friends.
Ted leaves a legacy of down-to-earth living and an extended family. His is survived by his spouse Jane Morris; by his brother James A. Morris of New Mexico (Robbin Roussy); by his former spouse Tess Meggs of Arizona; and three children; Teresa Zoellin (Robert) of Grass Valley CA; Terri Morris of Grass Valley CA; Todd Morris (Adriene) of Nevada City CA; step sons Mark Shiflet (Julie) of Mound House NV and Eric Shiflet of Grass Valley CA, and several grandchildren.
