Werner Paul Faahs

Paul passed away peacefully at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital at midnight, Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, in the company of his longtime partner John Simon and best friend Carole Douglas, a “Kindred Spirit”- due to complications of cancer.
Born in Germany, he was adopted as a 2 year old by the Faahs AF pilot family. He was raised in Massachusetts, Japan, Texas and California wherever the military sent them. Paul is holding a degree in Horticulture and Music from the University Denton, TX
He worked in the Nursery Trade in the Bay area and later in Grass Valley with his best friend Carole designing/installing and taking care of gardens. He worked for almost 20 years for the Wooden Spoon in Grass Valley for he loved cuisine and and with acquired practice became a fabulous cook, who loved to entertain in style. Everyone that attended his dinner parties marveled at the food and presentations, that he prepared with great care. As a baritone singer in the Bay are and later for MIM in Nevada City as well as chorister at Peace Lutheran and volunteer for special occasions for Sierra Master Chorale.
For almost 30 years he created fine food dishes for MIM “Goody Patrol” to help feed hungry musicians artists and volunteers. In 2008, Paul’s friend Ann Wilder started a worthy new program Comfort Cuisine through Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation to provide nutritious food for cancer patients and their families.
In 2016 Paul assumed the lead role in the program. He expanded menus to serve approx 900 meals a year.
This great program will continue, thanks to the many volunteers who jumped right in and honor his incredible work.
He is preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his life partner, John of 45 years. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to MIM Youth educational/the Hospital Foundation Comfort Cuisine program. Thank you!
Paul will be sorely missed by the many many friends who loved him and were touched by his generosity
