John Michael Hill passed away on October 31, 2023 at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. He was 89 years old.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, November 24, 2023, at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary. Graveside committal services with military honors will follow at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Following those services, a reception will be held in the Fellowship Room at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.

John was born on October 30, 1934 in Los Angeles, CA to Edward and Mary Hill. He served in the Korean War. He met the love of his life Karen Swenson. They married in 1958 and built a life together, having eight children. In 1975 he moved his family to Nevada City. He worked for Washington Ridge Conservation Camp until an early retirement followed by Grass Valley Group as a security Guard. Karen passed in 2002 and John found companionship with his second wife Teresa until her death in 2022.

John was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and the American Legion. He was a past member of the Sportsman Club of Nevada City. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and 4-wheeling with his kids in his Willys Jeep.

John lived a full life with many friends. He will be missed by his surviving daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters Eleanor (Daryl) Davis of Reno, NV, Bridget Hill of Nevada City, Carolyn Nowell of Nevada City; Grandchildren Fred (Janee) Benuzzi, Marilyn (Jerrod) Hermit, Katharine (Tanner) Scheurer, Logan (Chelsea) Paul, Candace Paul, Patrick Rankin, Katelyn Frozina; Great-Grandchildren Karlie, Lilly, Travis, Connor, Jed, Maddison, Kaleb and Jakob.

John is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Mary, wife Karen, daughters Larissa Frozina, Maureen and Monica Hill, sons Patrick and Michael Hill and his second wife Teresa.
