Mary Jacqueline Sand, age 67, peacefully passed away in Salem, Oregon, on October 5, 2023. She was born on March 20, 1956, in Teaneck, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Robert Harold Sand and Jacqueline Dolores Daniels.

 

Mary was a beloved wife, mother, and sister. She is survived by her two loving children, Jessica Sand and David Sand, as well as her devoted siblings, Elizabeth Wald, Leslie Johnson, Scott Sand, Christopher Sand, and Heidi Letcher.

 

In her formative years, Mary attended Trinity Lutheran School in Whittier, California, where she developed a close relationship to her spiritual upbringing, as well as cherished moments spent with her siblings and cousins in the southern California area. Mary grew up in La Mirada, California, and Diamond Bar, California.

 

There were many memorable vacations spent camping, and her favorite was at Twin Lakes in Mammoth, California, where she learned to love and respect the outdoors. Over the decades, Mary was highly engaged in various activities, including school, church, and clubs.

 

Mary’s dedication to her education led her to Sierra College in Northern California where she graduated as an LVN. She embarked on a 35-year career as a Licensed Vocational Nurse, leaving a profound impact on the lives of countless patients and their families.

 

Beyond her professional life, Mary held a deep affection for her pets, the beauty of the mountains, and the joy of travel. She resided in Salem, Oregon and had spent time in Juneau, Alaska, and Grass Valley, California, where she lovingly raised her family and delighted in fishing at the area’s numerous lakes and rivers. Her interests included knitting, creative arts and crafts, culinary pursuits, and caring for animals.

 

A gathering to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Sierra Memorial Lawn‎, located at 459 Hollow Way, Nevada City, CA 95959. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Sammie’s Friends Animal Shelter in Grass Valley, California, in Mary’s memory.
