In Loving Memory of Sheila Mae Deniz

Sheila Mae Deniz, beloved mother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on November 11th, 2023, surrounded by the love of her children, friends, and caregivers. She was 83 years old.

A memorial service to celebrate Sheila’s remarkable life will be held on Sunday, December 10th, at 1 pm at Peace Lutheran Church in. Grass Valley, CA.

Born on November 6th, 1940, in Los Angeles, California, to LeRoy and Sylvia Lowe, Sheila was the eldest of five siblings. By the age of 16, she had attended eight schools in California and Oregon before her family settled in Grass Valley in 1956. Sheila continued her education at Nevada Union High School and Sierra College, where she cultivated lifelong friendships.

On August 20th, 1960, Sheila married Dean Deniz. Throughout her life, Sheila showcased an extraordinary talent for numbers and puzzles, leading her to a fulfilling career as a dedicated bookkeeper.

Her unwavering faith in God guided her to become a founding member of Peace Lutheran Church, where she generously donated her time and talents. Sheila volunteered as a bookkeeper, taught Sunday school and confirmation, served on various committees, acted as a eucharistic minister, and even embarked on a memorable journey to Europe with the church.

Devoted to her family, Sheila was an active presence in the lives of her children and grandchildren. Whether volunteering at their schools or attending every sporting event, play, and dance recital, she demonstrated her love and support. Sheila was also a proud member of Al-anon and cherished her time with the Bingo Babes.

Sheila found solace in nature, reveling in moments spent outdoors with her hands in the dirt—planting, weeding, and digging. She had a passion for dancing, singing, and, above all, having fun and sharing laughter with those around her.

Now at peace, Sheila will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. She is survived by her husband, Dean Deniz, her sister Linda Tanner, her sons Ryan, Burke (Jeanine), Myles (Lisa), her daughter Dena (Matthew) Dimond, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Sylvia Lowe, her stepfather Arden Markestad, her brothers Roger and Brian Lowe, her sister Barbara Harlan, and her grandson Miles Person.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Interfaith Food Ministry in Grass Valley, CA, in honor of Sheila’s compassionate spirit and commitment to community service. https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/interfaithfoodministry#
