Robert Ernest Granville “Bob”, (if you were cool) 1935 – 2024 His life was well lived, and he was well loved. He was called home in a peaceful manner at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, 16 February 2024, in his 88th year, having been surrounded for many days by an adoring family.

This poet, craftsman, comedian, and storyteller has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be supremely missed by his wife and best friend of 32 years, Etta Granville, and his sisters, Dolores Davis, Kathy Dunham, Elaine Rogers, and his children, John Granville, Robert Granville, James Granville, Christine Ford, Anthony McQuade, and Jason McQuade.

Family was paramount to Bob; he never forgot a single birthday. He was proud and honored to be the patriarch, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, uncle, and great-uncle to our large family. He has been a major presence in the lives of his grandchildren: Danielle Scallin, Adam Granville, Melody Buckley, Janea Dunne, James Granville, Kassi Houston, Kimberley Armstrong, Makenna Granville, Tennessee Davenport, Jonathan Ford, Collin McQuade, Summer Bryant, Jaccob McQuade, Megan Gallagher, Seaera Cole, Holly Rosenberger, Autumn Gallagher, and of his great-grandchildren, of which there are 25+!

Born in Woburn Massachusetts, 20 Nov 1935, Bob spent a good portion of his life as a serviceman to his country, serving in both the US Navy and the US Airforce from 1953 – 1973, and later completing 17 years of a Civil Service career with the US Army, finally retiring in 1996 – the year his first great grandchild was born.

He was predeceased by his father, Ernest John Granville (22 Jun 1987), his mother, Mildred Christine Santarella-Granville (18 May 1994), daughter Brenda Lee Hodges (27 Jun 1987), Grandson, Marshall Anthony Hodges (3 Oct 2020) and sister Dianne Spilman (18 Jan 2023).
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, including the neighborhood dogs who, in his later years could count on finding him in his garage, waiting with a treat in hand.

The family would like to thank all the healthcare professionals from Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital for providing heart-felt care and comfort in the last days of his life.

Bob will be forever remembered for his witty humor, his artistic hands, his adventurous spirit, caring heart, and capacity for unconditional love. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort in knowing that he lives on in our memories.

He will be laid to rest in Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Nevada City, CA, A viewing will be held 24 Feb 2024 at 0800. The graveside service will be at 1100. Afterwards a celebration of life will be held at the Grass Valley Courtyard Suites in downtown Grass Valley, Ca.
