February 12, 1937 to February 17, 2024
Louis Robert “Bob” Libutti, of Nevada City California, sadly left us on February 17th, only days after his 87th birthday, and after years of struggling with Parkinson’s disease. He is predeceased by his sister Cathleen and survived by his wife, Mary Tendall, son Robert (Bonnie) of Michigan, Laura (Jon) of Wisconsin, daughter Melissa of Florida, and five grandchildren.
Bob was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and later attended Lehigh University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics, and an MBA and PhD in Business. He worked in the industry as an electrical engineer, then as an officer and interim company commander in the US Army.
He had a 31 year career with IBM, serving as a group director for marketing and production in the US, Japan, and Europe. He also authored the book, IBM’s Systems Application Architecture and later served as director, VP, and CEO of many early stage companies in the field of technology.
Bob moved to Nevada City from Santa Fe in 1999, and married Mary Tendall in 2002. He became an active member of the community, serving on the boards of United Way and Music in the Mountains, as well as being a contributing artist at Art Works in Grass Valley. In his youth, his interest in art began when he drew the Corsair aircraft at the end of World War 2 and he continued through high school developing his painting skills. After he retired, he expressed that he learned HOW to paint while living in Santa Fe, and loved the artistic process of painting and writing poetry.
He was loved by many, and enjoyed spending time with friends and visiting with family. His many passions in life, including world travel, music, family, art, and good conversations, were vast and contagious.
His family wants to thank Eskaton Assisted Living Facility and Partners in Care Hospice, along with friends and community members for their support and good memories over the years.
