Wayne McKay passed away on June 5, 2024, in his sleep in Grass Valley, California. He was 89 years old.
Wayne desired not to have a service in Grass Valley and wished instead to have a graveside service in Swan Valley, Idaho where he was born and raised and still has many family members. He will be buried next to his beloved cousin Helen.
Wayne was born April 2, 1935, in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Archie and Geneva McKay. He was a farmer and a cattle rancher during his time in Swan Valley, Idaho. He helped build the Palisades Dam before relocating to Grass Valley, California and becoming an Iron Worker, where he worked on such projects as Bullards Bar Dam, The Golden Center Freeway, many bridges in the surrounding area and Arco Arena, just to name a few. He was very proud of his profession and admired for his abilities. He lived in Grass Valley for 60 years.
Wayne was a proud Patriot and loved America very much. He supported many causes that he believed in. He spent a lot of his time after retirement doing yardwork and he loved attending The Nevada County Fair, The Draft Horse Classic, car shows, etc. every year. He also LOVED rodeo and football and could often be heard yelling through the house with excitement when watching these events.
Wayne was a very passionate man, he loved his family very much, especially the “little ones” who seemed to gravitate toward him. He will be missed by all.
He is survived by his significant other of 44 years, Lois Robinson, 2 sisters, 6 children, 2 stepchildren, several grandchildren and great grandchildren who all loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Geneva McKay. paternal grandparents, William and Nellie McKay, maternal grandparents, Oliver and Lydia Jacobson, 1 stepson, 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
