Debra Dornbush peacefully passed away on August 22nd, 2024, surrounded by family.
Debra was a force of nature, overflowing with fierce caring, endless generosity, and tremendous spunk and energy. She was always creating and organizing and juggling projects, from organizing homeschool classes, to sewing quilts and costumes, to working on a stream of home improvement and renovation projects. She loved Christmas, reading, and traveling, and she never met a dog she didn’t adore. She loved chocolate and made mud cookies so often that she had the recipe taped inside a cabinet door.
Debra was everything from a successful ballroom dance competitor, to a community helper, to a fabulous party organizer – but the role she cared about the most was the role of Mom. She raised four children who were her whole world, and she was endlessly, unabashedly proud of them. She always said that raising her children was her greatest achievement in life. She also had many “bonus children” (friends of her own children) whom she loved dearly, and she found incredible happiness in making her home a welcoming, cozy place for all of her guests.
She was married to her husband George for 41 years, and is survived as well by her four children, Selene, Alyssa, Bryce, and Mathew. She was also Mana and Nana to her 5 grandchildren, whom she doted on and deeply adored. In her own written words, “I am so fortunate to have such a full life and my family gave that to me. Thank you.”
She will have a celebration of life in October.
