September 22, 1951 – September 28, 2024

Mary Ann Crabb, age 73 years and six days, passed from this mortal world on September 28, 2024 from complications of diabetes.

She was born at Miner’s Hospital in Nevada City on September 22, 1951 and grew up in Grass Valley, California.

She attended Mount St. Mary’s Academy for all except her senior year when she graduated from Nevada Union High School in 1969. She was amember of the FFA and raised chickens in her parent’s backyard. She was Certified Nurse’s Assistant for many years and was also an accomplished seamstress.

She may be best remembered for her work with the Merry Widow Society and their yearly appearances at the Mardi Gras and Constitution Day parades. Under her leadership the Widows raised over $50,000 in scholarships for single parents.

On May 22, 2005 she married Robert Crabb at the Washington Hotel, fulfilling a relationship that began when they first met in a field behind her parent’s home when they were five years old.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Leone Niehaus, brother Ted and sister Rosalie. She is survived by her husband, son Elijah Schwartz and brothers Jim and Richard.

We hope to have a celebration of Mary Ann’s life at some time in the near future.
