April 17, 1940- June 20, 2024
Harley Monian, 84, of Graniteville, CA, passed away from complications of Pneumonia at Sierra Nevada Memorial. He is survived by his wife Vickie, son Jeff, daughter Gail and daughter-in-law Lori.
He graduated from Nevada Union High School and later received his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts from CSU Chico. He taught woodshop, metal shop, drafting and electronics during his career as a teacher in Fremont, CA. In retirement he lived for many years on a sailboat in Florida, where he sailed the East Coast and the Bahamas.
Throughout his life he would spend as much time as he could in Graniteville, CA. He was what his mother Lillian referred to as a renaissance man, equally comfortable building houses, working on boats or cars, creating art, reading history, or teaching children. He had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed many outdoor sports such as skiing, backpacking, scuba diving, bike touring, wind surfing and all types of boating. He was gregarious and active in every community where he lived and will be missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service is being planned for spring 2025.
