Robert Wieland, born March 11, 1944, unexpectedly passed away on November 30, 2024 at his home.
Bob was born in Orlando, Florida. He spent the first 20 years of his life in Uganda, Kenya and South Africa, as the child of missionaries. He then came to the United States for college and eventually settled in Oakland, CA where he began a long career in the insurance industry.
A man of many passions, Bob had a deep love for music. He delighted in playing classical piano and singing in the choir at St. Patrick’s Church in Grass Valley. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed the outdoors, camping and hiking.
Above all, Bob cherished being a devoted father, grandfather and husband. He loved spending time with his daughter, Sonia, son Ian and grandson, Ronan.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo (Castruccio) Wieland, his children Sonia (Dmitry) Zubareva; son Ian Wieland; grandson Ronan Zubarev; brother Dr. John Wieland (Michael McLaughlin); his sister Margaret (Charles) Utt; and his nieces and nephews.
A prayer vigil will be held at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday January 29, 2025 at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary, 459 Hollow Way, Nevada City, CA.
A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 235 Chapel Street, Grass Valley with a reception to follow.
