February 15, 1948 – January 8, 2025
Patrick Norman passed away unexpectedly on January 8, 2025. A service will be held February 21, 2025, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Grass Valley at 1 PM.
Born February 15, 1948, and raised in Merced, California, Patrick grew up fishing, riding horses in Yosemite, playing tennis, and reading avidly. At Fresno State, he met Linda Cook at church youth group. After navigating the draft, they married in 1970. Patrick served as a conscientious objector, working as a janitor in an institution.
The couple settled in Nevada County, where Patrick became a planner, balancing community and environmental needs. He authored Nevada County’s General Plan and served as Zoning Administrator. They built a passive solar home, growing an orchard, grapevines, and a garden.
After retiring at 50, Patrick traveled, skied, hiked, and doted on his grandchildren. An outdoors man, he climbed Mt. Whitney and Half Dome and hiked Grouse Ridge’s many lakes. He was a talented singer, guitarist, and conversationalist with sayings like “The point of life is to learn stuff.”
Patrick is survived by his wife Linda; daughters Bethany Gregory, Addi Assi, and Tyson Brown; their husbands Daniel, Yamil, and Silas; and grandchildren Justus (Annabelle), Scout (Jordan), Grace, Max, Valentin, Layla, and Joaquin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ruth; brother Michael; and brother-in-law Mike.
Despite battling Alzheimer’s, Patrick never forgot us.
Toodle-oo, Papa.
