Lee McCarty Blakemore, known affectionately as Mac to his family, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2025.
He was born in St. Clair, Michigan, in 1933 and spent his formative years along the picturesque St. Clair River region. Lee pursued higher education at Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
Following his graduation, Lee served in the Navy starting in 1955. After his military service, he embarked on a successful career at Goodyear Tire Company in Akron, Ohio. It was here that he met his future wife, Nellie. Lee’s professional journey also saw him make significant contributions at Borden and Amoco Oil.
Upon retiring, Lee and Nellie chose to settle in Lake Wildwood in Penn Valley, California. Lee’s commitment to service continued as he volunteered for several organizations, including Club Live and 4th R School. His dedication was recognized in 2012 when he received the prestigious Volunteer of the Year award from United Way of Nevada County.
Lee is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Nellie.
He is survived by his three children: Shari (husband, Richard), Jill (husband, Mike), and Mark (wife, Jennifer). Lee’s legacy also includes his four grandchildren: Natalie, Danielle, Emilee, and Matthew, and his great-grandson, Beau.
As per Lee’s wishes, a private family service will be held to celebrate his life and the many ways he touched the lives of those around him.
