December 5, 1941 – March 19, 2025

Reginald Dale King, 83, born December 5, 1941, in Fernie, British Columbia, Canada passed away from brain cancer peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 19, 2025, in Grass Valley, California. He lived a full life dedicated to his family and service to others.

Reg grew up in the wilds of British Columbia developing an adventurous spirit, strong work ethic, and deep sense of community. In his teens, he immigrated to central California with his family and pursued his dreams of higher education. He earned a B.S. in civil engineering, started his career at Cranmer Engineering, and later founded King Engineering in Grass Valley, developing many well-known projects throughout Nevada and Placer Counties.

Betty Christensen became the love of Reg’s life following a chance meeting at Grass Valley’s first car wash that Reg built at age 23. Married in 1966, Reg and Betty spent 58 beautiful years together. They raised two children, Russell and Julie, enjoying skiing, hiking, horseback riding, and traveling. Reg was always happiest with his family.

Reg thrived on challenges and never sat still for long. He obtained his private pilot’s license incorporating it into his work and flying loved ones throughout Canada, Mexico, and the Western US. Reg was a cowboy at heart and fulfilled his dream of becoming a rancher, first in Oregon and later in Nevada. Towards retirement, Reg established Haiti Mission Outreach, spending over 10 years helping the people of Haiti. Along with Betty and many friends and family, he built a medical clinic, multiple schools, and water systems. Reg continued his philanthropic work in Belize, taking groups of students on trips to participate in the work he found so fulfilling.

Reg was known for his vibrant energy, warmth, and willingness to help anyone. He had a positive attitude and perpetual belief in the potential of all he met. His love and dedication to his family and beloved grandchildren and his strong faith in God were what he cherished most.

He is survived by his devoted wife Betty; children Russell King (Cheryl) and Julie King Irons (Timothy); grandchildren Rowan and Charlotte King and Davan and Ethan Irons; siblings Arthur King (Sylvia) and Robin King-Benso (Bruce); nieces, nephews, uncles and an aunt who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rupert and Clara King, and sister, Linda Miller.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Grass Valley Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

Reg was passionate about providing education opportunities for students. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the worthy student fund at Echo Ridge Christian School, Pine Hills Adventist Academy, Walla Walla University, or a school of your choice in Reg’s honor.
