Sherman Alford passed away on Saturday, June 12, 2021, in Sacramento at the age of 92.
Sherm was born in Elk Grove, CA on October 20, 1928, to Albert and Ethel Alford and attended Elk Grove High School. He married Edna Jordan in 1950 who preceded him in death in 1992. They spent years enjoying their weekend homes in Sly Park entertaining and boating. Sherm and Edna had five children – Charlene Hegney (Vern) of San Ramon, Steve Alford (Kerry) of Fair Oaks, Barbara Nobriga (Herb) of Sacramento, Becky Heieck (Charlie) of El Dorado Hills, Scott Alford (Denise) of Lockeford. Sherm had seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. The kids grew up boating at Jenkinson Lake, with Sherm at the helm, enjoying picnics and watching little league games as Sherm coached and umpired. He spent much time helping his kids with their home projects.
Sherm enjoyed a successful career at Clarksburg Machine Works and made many memories with the local delta area farmers. He had a true respect for the good and rewarding work that farmers do and took great pride in his contributions in the design and manufacturing of equipment needed to get crops to market.
Sherm married Marilyn Gruenke (Edna’s best friend) in 1993 and she preceded him in death in 2019. Marilyn had four children and numerous grand and great grandchildren. Special to Sherm was Marilyn’s son Mitch (Julie). Sherm and Marilyn spent their retirement years in the Grass Valley area where Sherm golfed, and they enjoyed weekend trips and ongoing card games.
Sherm’s sister Barbara Ellenhorn resides in Claremont, CA and he is preceded in death by his oldest sister, Donna Kreizenbeck of Denver, CO.
