Edna Mae Costa passed away peacefully on December 14, 2022 at the age of 89 in Nevada City, CA.
Born Edna Gregory on January 14, 1933 in Oklahoma. Her family migrated to California during the Depression and found work on California farms. They settled in the Mission San Jose area where Edna eventually graduated from Washington Union High School. Edna met and married the love of her life, LeRoy Costa, after he had returned from serving as a Marine Corp Raider in the South Pacific Islands 1943 to 1945. The young family eventually settled in Hacienda Heights, near Pomona, started a successful electrical contracting company, and raised their 4 children. Edna and LeRoy built their retirement dream home in Grass Valley, CA and moved there in 1981. After LeRoy’s passing, Edna moved to Calistoga and lived there from 2007-2021. She then returned to Nevada County in 2021.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy, brother JC, and grandchild Levi.
Edna is survived by her four children, Vicki McMahon (Jack) and Valerie Beck (Robert) of Calistoga, Richard Costa (Janice) of Corona, and Jacque Nielsen (Torben) of
Grass Valley as well as her grandchildren Chase, Page, Robby, Jenny, Greg, Jackson, Donnie, Olivia, and Simon and great grandchildren McKesson, Scarlett, and Demelza.
Edna made a lasting impact on her community in Calistoga, CA and Grass Valley, CA. She would always stop to say hello to any children or animals passing by on her walks. She is remembered by her glowing smile and deep love for her family. Her greatest joys were spending time with her family, traveling, trying sweet treats, soaking up the sunshine, and basking in God’s beautiful creation.
Her love was felt by many and she will be missed enormously.
