Christopher Alan Bishop passed away on December 20, 2022 at age 57 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Chris was born on June 1, 1965 in Grass Valley, California to Brian and Carol Bishop. A fifth generation native of Nevada County, Chris graduated from Nevada Union High School in 1983 and attended Sierra College and later UC Davis and Sacramento State, obtaining his teaching credential and a desire to come back to Nevada County and teach at Nevada Union. He was at Nevada Union High School for 32 years, teaching Biology and Chemistry, and coaching baseball for many years during his career. He retired in 2022 and joked he received his last paycheck from Nevada Union. His first check in 1989 was for $1100.
Chris met Jodanna Holtom in college and they were married on August 17, 1991. They were blessed with two boys, Max and Beau, and Chris’ life was focused around his family. He also loved coaching and watching baseball, playing golf and taking his family to Stinson Beach. His priority was his boys’ education, both who have graduated with degrees and are working in their respective fields. Chris always had a dry sense of humor; and a vast knowledge of sports statistics.
In 2016, Chris’ wife, Jodanna had a stroke and became limited in her daily activities. When Chris retired, he was excited to spend his days with Jodanna enjoying a simple life.
He is survived by Jodanna, their sons, Max and Beau, parents Brian and Carol Bishop, his brothers Matthew (Sarah) Bishop, Gregory (Melissa) Bishop, and sisters Maria and Laura Bishop, and Godson, Will Fluke.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Nevada City Elks Lodge on January 28th starting at 3:00. For more information, contact Mimi Simmons at 530-362-0010 or go to bit.ly/chrisbishop
