Julia C. Martin passed away on January 23, 2023, in her home. She was 87 years old. A Memorial Service will be held February 21st at 2:00 pm, at The First Baptist Church in Grass Valley.

Julia was born June 10, 1935, in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Jenkintown High School, and then went on to earn her degree as an English major from Beaver College (now Arcadia University) in 1957. Julia retired from Sparkletts Drinking Water, and despite hating public speaking, taught public speaking to their sales team. Her interest/hobbies were large. She played piano, sang alto in the church choir for decades, and loved singing and participating in the holiday Messiah production every year. Julia loved spoiling her two cats, music, volleyball, Sudoku, crossword puzzles, bible studies and books, especially about WWII. She loved playing and watching tennis and was able to play up until about 84 years old. She took many trips back east to visit family, friends and attend class reunions. She volunteered at Friends of the Nevada County Libraries, and several thrift stores in Grass Valley and Nevada City. As an adult, Julia came to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior, and trusted him for her future. Up until one week before her passing, she always loved to name the Philadelphia Athletics Baseball roster.

She was kind, funny, sassy, quick-witted and non-judgmental. She was her own person and will be missed by all.

Julia is survived by her daughter Jennafer Thorpe of San Rafael, CA; and her sisters Mary Banvard of Boise, Idaho, and Ann Lentz of Massanutten, Virginia. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to Hospice of the Foothills.
