Nancy was born on September 3,1937, in Davenport, Iowa to Ray and Hilda Tidman. She was the youngest of three girls. In the second grade, the family moved to San Diego, California where Nancy grew up. She graduated with the Class of ’56 from Herbert Hoover High School. She met her husband, Arlie Thompson, on a blind date and they married on Valentine’s Day, 1959. Their only child Suzanne was born in 1962. The family moved to Santa Monica in 1963, and Arlie started working at Hughes Aircraft Company. In 1969, they moved to Van Nuys and lived in the San Fernando Valley until 1999 when they moved to Grass Valley to be near their daughter and her family.

Nancy held multiple clerical and administrative jobs over the years and in between them, she was a stay-at-home mother. She started working as a young woman in a library and then in a bank. In Los Angeles, she worked at Hughes Tool Company and for a tax accountant in Westwood. After she moved to the Valley, she worked nights typing insurance documents, became an office manager for a CPA firm in one of the iconic Century City Towers and worked at Pierce College. She found her way back to Hughes Aircraft Company first in Canoga Park and then at the Corporate Headquarters in Culver City. In the fall of 1985, through Hughes and while still working, she graduated in 1987. She retired from Hughes as a retirement counselor in 1998.

Nancy was a woman who loved family, friends and fun! She grew up under the loving care of her parents and older sisters, Ann and Marilyn. She spent happy times with her father at the ballpark taking stats. As her sisters married and had children, she was the aunt that cuddled and championed her nieces and nephews. As a mother, Nancy spent as much time as possible with her daughter including time at Zuma and attending Dodger games and concerts. The family enjoyed time with Suzanne’s Girl Scout troops, camping, day trips and the theater. During their empty-nest stage Nancy and Arlie traveled and visited other U.S. States, Mexico and Hawaii.

In her later years, Nancy traveled with a church group to visit Jerusalem. When Nancy and Arlie moved to Grass Valley they found a church home at the Grass Valley United Methodist Church. Nancy trained and loved her time as a Stephen Minister, a lay person,a volunteer chaplain at the hospital, and her favorite song was I am Woman. In the 1990’s, and for years afterward, she participated in the Women’s Health Initiative.

Living near her grandsons, Nancy was able to spend time with them and root for them whether it was for sports, performances, graduations or other life events.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Arlie Thompson, her daughter Suzanne Bernadette, son-in-law Michael Bernadett, and grandsons David Bernadett and Ryan Bernadett. In addition, she is survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews.
