October 20, 1942 to February 2, 2024
Sandra Kaye (McClanahan) Wright passed away 2/2/2024, due to complications from heart surgery.
Sandy was born on 10/20/1942, in San Francisco, to Edward and Katherine McClanahan. A 1960 graduate from South San Francisco High School, she was active with Job’s Daughters along with her lifelong friend Diana. Sandy was also active in softball with the recreation league and received many awards.
After graduation she married and had 2 daughters, Deborah and Tami. Prior to moving to Grass Valley in 1972, Sandy married Don Wright and welcomed his children Catherine, Donny, Robert, and Kathy to the family. In 1977, Don and Sandy welcomed their son, Billy. They raised their children on the family farm with many animals and Sandy particularly enjoyed riding her horses.
Throughout her life Sandy worked at Rajo Publications, “Family Food Garden”, Alpha Hardware, Grass Valley Group, and Eisley’s Nursery. In her later years she graciously provided in-home care, as well as transportation to many elderly residents. Sandy’s church made pasties for those in need, and she went so far as to even deliver them herself.
Sandy was a 4-H leader, a member of the Nevada County Horsemen’s, North San Juan Ridge Riders, Golden Empire Equestrian, and Nevada County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse Search & Rescue. She was also a talented artist and loved sharing that with her children, grandchildren, and at their schools as a volunteer. She also became a huge supporter of the Gonzaga Women’s Basketball Team, and her favorite trips with them were to the Bahamas and Las Vegas.
The greatest loves of Sandy’s life were her family, and helping others.
She is survived by her sister Carol, her children Catherine, Robert, Tami, Kathy, and Billy, and 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, brothers Dennis and Ron, daughter Deborah, son-in-law Bill and grandson Hayden.
A Celebration of Life for Sandy will be held March 16, 2024, at 11 a.m., at Grass Valley United Methodist Church, 236 S. Church Street, Grass Valley.
Donations may be made to Hospice of the Foothills.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
