May 20, 1939 – April 17, 2024

Bobby (Bob) Joe Baxley passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 17, 2024 after a long valiant battle with dementia.

Watching our dad deal with the last few years of his life has proven without a doubt He was the toughest man we have ever known and who you wanted at your back during troubled times. We learned what true courage looked like each day seeing him try to hold his disease at bay so he could continue caring for our mom, learning to grocery shop, cook, do laundry and dishes at the ripe young age of 77, his only complaint being of his dishpan hands and having to admit he was a terrible cook.

Bob was born in Naylor, Missouri to Vada (Fann) and Charlie Baxley on May 20th,1939, he was the sixth of seven children.

He married Diane Doris Holbrook on March 22, 1958. That day was the beginning of a true love story with two lives becoming One that lasted for six days short of 65 years, when our mom, his “best half”, passed on March 16, 2023.

Bob was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 3 for 60+ years, his hard work paid off when they retired in 1997 in Susanville, CA. He called it “God’s country” where they proceeded to spend the next 23+ years having the best times of their lives hunting his hounds, brittneys and fishing every inch of Lassen County. Our dad wasn’t much of a tourist but he did take trips to Alaska and take our mom to see ” that big hole” AKA the Grand Canyon.

He is survived by his brother’s Charles and Bill Baxley, sister in- law’s Lottie, Barbara and Gia Baxley, and Cheryl Pebley. Son Ken (Julie) Baxley, Daughter Cindy (Dale) Tobiassen, Grandchildren; Robert (Michelle) Tellam, Jennifer May, Steven (Rachel) Baxley, Daniel (Amrita) Tellam, George (Lacie) and Ryan (Rachel) Baxley. Great grandchildren; Arianna, Bobby, Kylee, Annabelle, Korrie, Charlie and Justin Baxley, Parker and Preslie May, Vada, Nora, Adalyn, and baby boy Tellam coming in August, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother’s Wilburn and Homer and Sister’s Pauline Korn and Aline Baxley

While we will never forget our wonderful one of a kind Dad, and will forever miss his ornery grin, Our family’s only comfort is knowing that after One year, One month and One day, Dad was finally able to get to the pearly gates where our mom has been waiting, and they are back together again in God’s Country!

Graveside services will be held May 18th, noon at Oak Hill Cemetery in Placerville, CA.

A celebration of life will be held directly after at 1:00pm at 4735 Dusty Lane, Placerville.
