Dr. Lisa Elaine Moon, was born June 4, 1952 in Cambridge, MA, and was raised in San Francisco, CA. She met her soul mate, Dr. Jerry Chan, while attending optometry school at UC Berkeley. They were married at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco in 1977.
Lisa was well-known in the community as a caring optometrist, artistic director of Community Asian Theater of the Sierra (CATS), award-winning baker, gym-enthusiast, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She possessed a charismatic and adventurous spirit and brought joy to everyone she encountered.
Lisa passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully surrounded by friends and family June 8th, 2024.
Lisa is survived by husband, Dr. Jerry Chan; daughters, Allison Chan (Grant Weller) and Dr. Tiffany Chan; granddaughters Lily and Zoe Weller; brother, Leonard Moon (Joyce Tom). Other family members include: Dr. Bud Pierce, Carol Young, Shirley Hunziker, Dr. Robert Chan (Louise Chan), Cecelia Chan, Franklin Chan (Sue Chan), nieces and nephews: Cindy Young, Charles Young, Kimberly Chan, Melissa Chan-Stone, Dr. Christine Damiani, Greg Chan, Kristina Arellano, Michael Pierce, Emily Moon, and Timothy Moon.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Lawrence and Priscilla Moon, and sister, Dr. Selma Pierce.
A private memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Grass Valley on June 17th. A celebration of life, open to all, will be held at the Nevada Theater on July 20th at 1:00 PM.
