With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jordan (Milhous) Duran. Jordan was born to James and Alicia Milhous on September 28, 1991 in Grass Valley, California. Jordan loved being a big sister to her little brother, Chase Milhous, and a “Funtie” (Fun Aunt) to her nephew, Carter Milhous. Jordan touched the lives of those around her with her competitive nature, laughter, smile, and her genuine interest in people and seeing them succeed. The bonds she made with her students, players, co-teachers, and parents of our community will go on forever.
Jordan attended Union Hill School from pre-K to 8th grade. She went onto high school at Nevada Union graduating in 2010. Jordan furthered her education at Sierra College; earning her Bachelor’s degree at Sacramento State College and her Master’s Degree at William Jessup University.
As a youth, Jordan found her footing on the basketball court playing for Union Hill School, recreation league (AAU), Nevada Union High School, and Sierra College. Jordan was a first team all-league athlete and even started as a freshman in college. The drive and work ethic on the court was evident from day one, instilled by her parents. Jordan participated in 4H and FFA, raising, showing, and selling pigs with her brother and cousin, Jessica, at the Nevada County Fair each year.
Jordan became a teacher at Union Hill School and went on to coach basketball at Union Hill, Nevada Union High School, and Colfax High School. As a player and coach for Union Hill, she won multiple County titles. Jordan was on staff when the Lady Falcons won Nor Cal titles and runner up for the state championship. She was a true inspiration to all her players on and off the court.
Jordan met her husband, Jeff Duran, in the fall of 2010 and they tied the knot in June of 2017. A true adventurer at heart, Jordan adored traveling with Jeff. Whether they were exploring new cities or attending their favorite concerts, they embraced every moment together, creating countless memories that would last a lifetime. Though her transition from a Chargers fan to a Raiders fan – thanks, Jeff – was a lighthearted point of contention, she embraced it with the same enthusiasm she brought to everything else in her life.
In October 2021, Jordan was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer, and for three years, she battled the cancer head on enduring two rounds of chemo and multiple surgeries. Jordan was passionate about spreading awareness regarding ovarian cancer and became an ambassador for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC). Even as she battled, she laughed, loved, and continued to coach, teach and mentor. Jordan was ferocious in her fight and refused to give up or back down. Eventually, even the best warriors become weary. On September 29, 2024, God wrapped His loving arms around Jordan, unlaced her gloves and told her it was time to go home.
Jordan’s only regret was that she was going to miss out on watching Baby Carter grow up and creating more memories with her loved ones. Jordan was loved by all and will be missed dearly by those lucky enough to have known her.
In lieu of flowers, Jordan’s family requests donations be made to NOCC or the Grass Valley Cancer Aid as both organizations supported Jordan during her fight.
