Burial
To those who prefer this most traditional form of disposition, Hooper & Weaver offers the choice of five cemeteries. Families can take comfort in knowing that, when funeral services are complete, their loved one remains under our reputable care.
We take quiet pride in the aesthetic beauty of our cemeteries. Each provides families with a peaceful setting nestled into a landscape of tall trees. Choosing a permanent resting place for loved ones is an important part of the grieving process. If you do not already own cemetery property, our staff can assist you in comparing options and securing an appropriate burial site.
Whichever cemetery space or interment option you choose, Hooper & Weaver’s professional staff will coordinate every part of the process, from opening the grave to installation of the selected monument or nameplate.
Casket Selection
Hooper & Weaver welcomes you to visit our complete showroom of casket options at our Nevada City Mortuary, or to browse our casket gallery.
Ground Burial
The space for ground burial is called a plot and can vary in size from an individual space to a double depth grave for either casketed or cremated remains. A non-sealing vault, required by our cemeteries, helps to maintain a level surface and pristine cemetery aesthetic.
Green Burial
Hooper & Weaver is the only local mortuary to be certified by the Green Burial Council for natural burials. In keeping with the ever-changing needs of our community, our staff has worked hard to bring environmentally sustainable burial options and products to our scenic region. From home funerals to fully eco-friendly services, we can help you and your family create lasting tributes that honor the earth as well as your beliefs.
Direct Burial
If no visitation or funeral services are desired, burial can take place as soon as legal documents have been filed. The family need simply choose a casket and select their cemetery property.
Niche
One of the most popular placements of cremated remains, niches are concrete structures faced with granite. Etched into the niche face or cast in an affixed bronze nameplate are family and individual names with birth and death years. A new option for niche interment is the memorial columbarium, which accommodates multiple sets of remains with space to engrave family history or genealogy – a modern interpretation of history’s grand family crypts or plots.
Crypt
Some of history’s best-known monuments are crypts, including The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Great Pyramids and the Taj Mahal. Built of concrete with a granite face, a crypt offers clean, secure protection in which burial containers do not come in contact with the earth. Crypts convey prestige and personalization, signifying a family that has been an important part of their community.
Scattering Garden
Located at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Nevada City, our beautifully landscaped garden offers a water feature and seating to provide an ideal setting for reflection.
Veteran’s Burial
Basic benefits available free of charge to all veterans include cemetery space at a national cemetery, a veteran’s marker and a United States flag. Setting and foundation fees may apply to installation of the marker in a private cemetery. For veterans receiving disability or a pension from the military, burial funds are also available. Our staff is trained to research and make applications for these benefits on behalf of the family.
